Casual labourers have demanded the government to release their wages pending from the last over a year.

JK Tourism Casual Labourers Union president Kaisar Ahmad told KNS that from July 2014, the department has not paid them their wages.

“While the department on 23 of December paid Rs 60, 9100 as wages to 131 SPOs of police who were engaged as Tourist Assistance Group (TAG), we are the real labourers and have not been paid anything,” Kaisar said.

He said that the government at the time of engaging SPOs as TAG has said that police will pay their wages and not the tourism department.

“But we are shocked that the department pays these SPOs from its own treasury and leaves real labourers to fend for themselves. When we ask for our wages, the department says that it does not have funds, but holds extravagant events at a huge cost of public money,” he said.

The casual labourers appealed to the government to release their wages.
