Awami Ittihaad Party Chief and MLA Langate Er Rasheed Friday condemned the “media trial” against world renowned Islamic scholar and peace speaker Dr Zakir Naik.
He said that some fanatic forces seem to be hell bent upon choking the voice of Dr Naik who has made a name for “propagating truth and spreading the message of peace”.
In a statement issued this afternoon, Rasheed said, “it was naïve and unjustified to hold Dr Naik responsible for some body’s act who is claimed to be impressed by his speeches.
“If someone says that he or they are inspired by Zakir Naik how it means that Dr Naik is responsible for what the person does,” he asked.
He further said that Dr Naik is globally renowned, recognized and respected and “he operates in open”. “There is not a single incident where Dr Naik has supported violence or terrorism instead he is known for preaching peace and brotherhood”.
The Langate lawmaker said, “Indian television channels have madly started a trial against Dr Zakir Naik for none of his fault.”
“Not only Dr Zakir Naik but these channels are shamefully spreading venom about Quran and Islam,” he said and added that defaming Islam is condemnable and unacceptable too.
MLA Langate said that the champions of peace and tolerance are hitting at bad places to knockout the radicalization. “We see political uncertainty everywhere, they leave political issues unresolved and then want to de radicalize the society which is practically not possible as political uncertainty, denial of political rights to the people and injustice is the root cause of radicalization all over the world,” he said. “In Bangladesh, they started hanging 90 year old scholars and intellectuals thus sowing the seeds of violence and domestic war and have now strangely started making Dr Zakir Naik a scapegoat while Indian TV channels are adding fuel to the fire.”
