Police on Tuesday said it has identified the persons behind the recent killing spree in North Kashmir’s Sopore and ‘vital leads’ into the case ascertained at large.

Talking to KNS, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Syed Mujtaba Gilani said that the situation in Sopore town is in control and that police have identified the persons behind the recent attacks that killed six persons since past one month.

He added that random checks in the area are thoroughly being carried out by police and some persons are picked up for questioning. “As per the inputs being received by police, some persons are being picked up for the questioning in a bid to crack the case in a near future.”

However, Gilani refused to comment over the status of the investigations ordered earlier into the incident of the grenade explosion inside the police van which killed a Pakistani prisoner, a cop and injured four police personnel present inside the van at the time of blast.

“We at present cannot share the status of investigation that was ordered into the incident. I can only tell you that inquiry has been ordered and same is going on at present,” he said.

Pertinently, the state police chief K Rajendra had termed the incident as a major security lapse while ordering an inquiry into the matter.
