SRINAGAR: All gates of the Salal Dam in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district have been opened following a sharp increase in inflow caused by continuous heavy rainfall, resulting in a significant rise in the water level of the Chenab River.
According to officials, the Reasi region has been witnessing heavy rainfall for several hours, leading to increased inflow into the Chenab River and the Salal Dam reservoir. To regulate the reservoir level and release excess water, authorities opened all the dam gates.
The discharge has substantially increased the flow and water level of the Chenab downstream.
Authorities have advised people, particularly those living in low-lying areas and along the banks of the Chenab River, to remain vigilant and avoid venturing close to the river until the situation normalises.
The advisory comes amid continuing heavy rainfall across parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with authorities closely monitoring river levels and the overall flood situation.
