As the valley is witnessing heavy snowfall since Thursday morning traffic authorities are apprehensive about the Srinagar-Jammu highway.

“We have conveyed to our Jammu unit at 11 am not to allow any kind of vehicle to proceed to Srinagar however we are trying our best to pass those which are on way,” a traffic control room official told Kashmir Life.

He added that snowfall is continuing on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel and “if it does not stop soon there is every possibility we may close the highway”. However, he said, “Hundreds of vehicles are on way to Srinagar till the reports last came in.”

Meanwhile, heavy snowfall was going on in Srinagar and its peripheries disturbing normal life in the summer capital.

Reports of heavy to moderate snowfall have also come from Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Shopian, Kulgam and other areas of the valley.

Authorities have already issued avalanche alert in the hilly areas of the state.
