Hurriyat Conference (M) Tuesday strongly condemned the killing of Altaf Sheikh by unknown gunmen in North Kashmir’s Sopore area.

In a statement, Hurriyat (M) said the killing of innocent people irrespective of where it occurs is inhuman and condemnable. The Hurriyat amalgam offered condolences and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.

Expressing serious concern over the bad condition of Kashmiri political prisoners lodged in different jails across India, the statement said, “the government was resorting to delaying tactics and unnecessarily keeping prisoners in jails despite their terms have ended.”

“Kashmiri prisoners were not produced in courts on hearing dates and the proper jail manual was not followed in their cases. The families and relatives of the prisoners were not allowed to meet them,” it added.

The statement while denouncing this “inhuman act” on part of government appealed International Human Rights organizations to take strong notice into the bad condition of Kashmiri prisoners lodged in different jails across India.

Meanwhile expressing shock over the cold blooded murder of Mohammad Altaf Sheikh of Sopore, by unidentified gunmen, National Front chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan Tuesday said that targeting pro-freedom people and families indicates a situation witnessed during nineties.

“I am personally grieved by the killing of Mohammad Altaf Sheikh. It is not only a murder but an indicator that pro-freedom people are being targeted once again,” Khan said in a statement. “Such killings are always aimed at weakening the pro-freedom people however the pro-freedom camp cannot be deterred from propagating it’s just political cause.”

While exhibiting solidarity and sympathy with the bereaved family, he said, “The family has suffered a lot only because of its political stance. Sacrifices of such families are assets of the ongoing resistance movement.”
