MATTAN
After gap of 34 years, Mattan in South Kashmir erupts in joy again. The news reaching this modest village that Athar Aamir ul Shafi Khan, a young boy from the area has secured second place in the elite Indian Administrative Service Examination takes the residents back to 1980’s.
Lost in memories, it was 1982 when the village witnessed something impossible; an IAS qualifier, Khursheed Ahmad Ganai. Ganai and Khan have many things in common, which the residents term as ‘coincidence and pleasant surprise’.
Ganai was trained engineer of same village who secured second position. After 34 years, Khan, a trained engineer is again second position holder. “Legacy continues’ is what a resident of area Ghulam Muhammad Mir told Kashmir Life.
