If Omar is accused, how Mufti can be given clean chit: NC

KL Report

SRINAGAR

Over the reports of Syed Ali Geelani led Hurriyat Conference filing a petition before court seeking registration of FIR against former chief minister, Omar Abdullah, National Conference came out in Omar’s defense on Tuesday saying he in no way in involved in the killings of 2010.

Talking to KNS, the senior NC leader and party’s provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani said that Omar, the former JK chief minister is not involved in the killing that took place during summer unrest of 2010.

Substantiating his claims, Omar’s close aide and former Minister of State (MoS) Home, Nasir said that the allegations being levelled against Omar are malicious and incorrect.

He added that the chief minister cannot be held responsible for any violence taking place in the state. “There is proper machinery in the state and a rule of law. You cannot be a jury yourself and pass the judgment without ascertaining the facts,” Nasir said.

Training guns against the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Nasir said, “If Omar is accused of being responsible for 2010 killings then how could Mufti Mohammad Sayeed be given the clean chit who was the home minister when massacres like Gaw Kadal and Islamia College took place.”

“There is a commission of Inquiry that has been set up to probe 2010 killings. Let the report of the commission come and truth will be brought to fore. In my opinion, it is the court which only can decide whether anyone is responsible or not,” the NC leader opined.

He also rubbished the reports that the BJP president Amit Shah was trying to woo Omar to strike a deal for the government formation in the state after assembly polls. “No, we never talked to BJP for government. Why we should have been in talks with the BJP. We are not the ones who barter principles for power.”
