Police arrested twelve gamblers and recovered stake money of Rs 56200 from the gambling spots, a statement said Saturday afternoon.

In its continuous drive against gambling and other social evils, police parties from Police Station Nowhata and Khanyar under the supervision of SDPO Khanyar Mir Ejaz conducted two raids near Islamia College and Nowpora.

“Twelve gamblers were arrested. Nine of them were arrested at Hawal with stake money of Rs 47640 and three at Nowpora with stake money of Rs 8560. Two cases were registered under FIR numbers 105/2015 and 79/2015 under section 13 gambling act at Police Station Nowhata and Khanyar respectively,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the statement said that three persons were injured in different road accidents in the valley.

In Islamabad, a vehicle bearing registration number JK03B-3073 hit and injured a pedestrian Ghulam Qadir Ganaie resident of Paibugh at Paibugh Mattan.

The injured was shifted to District Hospital Islamabad for treatment.

In Awantipora, a Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK01Q-7577 and an Auto load carrier bearing registration number JK13C-8635 met with an accident at Highway Lethpora, resulting in injuries to the driver of Auto load carrier.

The injured was shifted to Sub District Hospital Pampore for treatment.

In Baramulla, an Eon vehicle bearing registration number JK05C-5979 driven by Manmeet Singh resident of Kanispora hit and injured a pedestrian Bashir Ahmad Mugal resident of Parampeela, Uri at Mohra near Dawara bridge Uri.

The injured was shifted to District Hospital Baramulla for treatment.

The statement further added that two residential houses were damaged in two separate fire incidents in Handwara and Srinagar.

Fire broke out in the joint residential house of Ghulam Qadir Wani and Abdul Ahad Wani residents of Zub Magam, Handwara resulting in damage to the structure.

In another fire incident, fire broke out in the residential house of Nazir Hussain Mir resident of Ali Park Zadibal, Srinagar, resulting in damage to the structure.

However, no loss of life or injury was reported in these incidents.

Fire tenders with the help of police and locals brought fire under control.
