State’s principal opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the government to ensure that the local communities living around Wular lake are involved in the execution of the conservation project initiated with the assistance of government of India.

Addressing a public meeting at Saderkote Payeen the MLA Bandipora Nizamudin Bhat and party chief spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said it was unfair that the locals were not involved in the execution of the project which is directly connected with their lives.

The two leaders said the locals from Saderkote and other villages along the lake should be given preference in execution of works, transportation of materials and disposal of silt. They said without the involvement of locals the project will lose it meaning and preservation of the lake will remain a distant dream, while the middleman make a quick buck.

The two leaders said the government had been unable to execute any work on the Saderkote, Kalvethpora link road. They said the government is avoiding a sanction to a modest project costing just twelve lacs and called upon the planning department to clear it soon so that the people of the two localities heave a sigh of relief. They also called upon the PHE department to restore  water supply in the village which has remained non functional because of problems with the tubewell that feeds the water supply scheme. The locals also highlighted the requirement of additional transformer in the village.
