Angry resident in the old city areas flouted curfew and have assembled in the Jamia Masjid to offer funeral prayers to slain young man Irfan. His body was being taken to the Jamia in a procession by the youth, reports reaching from the area said.

Identified as Irfan, a resident of Malik Angan Fateh Kadal, he was hit by a tear smoke shell in Malarata. He was immediately rushed to SMHS where he breathed his last.

“Doctors have confirmed that he was injured by a tear smoke shell,” one police officer told Kashmir Life. “It remains to be seen how it happened.”

As the news of Irfan’s death spread like wildfire, the people started assembling in Fateh Kadal, They eventually took his body and started moving in a huge procession towards Jamia Masjid. People were still gathering in the lawns of the Jamia when this report was filled.

“It is a good gathering as people from various localities have assembled,” one journalist who lives near the Jamia said. “People from all ages are here.”

Police have withdrawn the paramilitaries from various belts to prevent any confrontation.

Local news gatherer KNS has quoted a “top official” saying that ‘a group of protesters defied curfew restrictions in the area and carried out a protest march. Protesters pelted stones at security forces who used tear smoke to disperse them.”

KNS said that dozens were reported injured in clashes in Bijbehara, Achhabal and Kulgam. One of the two youth who were injured in Mominabad Islamabad was referred to SMHS Hospital. He is a 21-year-old B.Tech student who received injury in both eyes and chest.

A youth, Parvaiz Ahmed Naikoo was severely injured by pellets in his chest and later admitted to SDH Kreeri, reports said.
