In the high profile killing of tech savvy cop in north Kashmir’s Bandipora three months ago, J&K police Thursday produced challan against six persons including Lashkar-e-Toiba’s slain commander Abu Qasim.

Altaf Ahmad Dar, an SI rank cop, who was known master mind in handling J&K P’s IT network in anti-guerrilla operations, was killed in Gundachina area of Bandipora in December when he came under militant attack. He was following a suspected militant’s movement.

The charge sheet includes Muslims League’s two members Showkat Ahmad Hakeem, Mehraj ud din Sheer Gojri alias Nanda who are senior members of the party while the other three Manzoor Ahmad Parrey, Mohammad Younis Khanday and Showkat Ahmad Shiekh are “well-wishers” of Muslim League (ML), party spokesperson, Rafiq Ganaie said.

Police filed before Chief Judicial Magistrate Bandipora on Thursday.

The five Muslim League activists accused in the case are currently serving detention in Baramulla Jail while Qasim figures in charge sheet at serial number ‘6’ as Abdul Rehman alias Abu Qasim S/O Ab Majeed R/O Bahawalpora Multan Pakistan, reports said.

The ML spokesperson said that the two active members were arrested in 2008, 2009 and 2010 on the charges of “being workers of Muslim League”. Why are they being linked to militancy related incident now?” he questioned.

Speaking to Kashmir Life, the ML spokesperson said, “They have no links with militancy. The two are our political workers for 8 years now and they have been arrested time and again for being active members of Muslim League.”
