The Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Marketing Federation (JAKFED) would provide 150 gas connections through Public Distribution System to the students belonging to Ladakh region, studying in various educational institutions in Jammu. The JAKFED would also set up distribution of gas sale outlets at different parts of Jammu city and its vicinity area where the Ladakhi students are residing for their convenience.

The decision in this regard was taken by the Minister for Cooperatives, Chering Dorjay in a meeting held with the officers of JAKFED and Executive Councillors of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh( LAHDC ) here today.

Since it was felt that the number of students may vary from time to time, as such it was decided that each student may be provided the facility of individual connections with two cylinders, with a rider that on completion of their studies in Jammu, they will surrender the connection.  All the new connections will, however, be subject to periodical renewal on production of certificate from the head of the educational institution, the meeting decided.

The meeting also decided that JAKFED would provide two new connections with double LPG Cylinder facility in the name of the incharge Ladakhi Girls Hostel, Muthi, and Jammu through PDS.  However, periodical renewal condition shall not apply in case of the Hostel.

The Meeting was told that for establishing ‘key building material stocking depot’ in Leh, 2 acre land is required for leasing out by the government besides there is also need of state land of one acre each for setting up of such depot at Nobra and Nyoma. The meeting also informed that there is need of 10 kanal land at Nobra for establishment of a petrol pump.

The Minister instructed Managing Director, JAKFED to proceed to Leh for identifying suitable land sites so that the matter would be taken up with the authorities of LAHDC for leasing out the land to establish the said facilities for the convenience of people at the earliest.

The Minister said government is also contemplating to establish cold atmosphere storage facilities in Ashjipora Islamabad and Meran Sahib Jammu through JAKFED and instructed Managing Director, JAKFED to formulate the project reports for sanction of funds from NCD for the purpose.

Dorjay also asked the concerned authorities to upgrade and renovate warehouse of JAKFED at Gobindsar in Kathua adding that it would be used for stocking food grains of the Food Corporation of India.
