Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir Saturday vehemently denounced the government for its “repressive” policy of arresting the pro-freedom leadership and activists which has “no moral or legal justification and is quite against” the basic democratic principles which it falsely claims to uphold.

In a statement issued this afternoon, JeI spokesperson said, “in a real democratic setup, everybody has a fundamental right to express his views and aspirations and curbing this right by enacting and imposing the black laws like PSA, AFSPA is one of the worst forms of dictatorship and imperialism and Kashmir has been witnessing this type of governance since 1947 after its forced occupation.”

Denouncing police action against the protestors near Jamia Masjid and firing of tear gas shells “inside” the premises of the said Masjid, JeI termed it a blatant intervention into the religious matters which is quite against the basic human norms.

“Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) strongly criticizes the unjustified apprehension of Hurriyat leaders which includes the continued house arrest of the octogenarian leader Syed Ali Geelani and re-arrest of JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik,” the spokesperson said.

Jama’at demanded immediate and unconditional release of all these leaders including those who have been languishing in different jails for years together.
