SRINAGAR: The Committee on Petitions of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly held its first meeting on Wednesday at the Assembly complex in Srinagar, with a renewed focus on resolving genuine public concerns in a timely and transparent manner.

The meeting was chaired by Pirzada Farooq Ahmad Shah and attended by committee members Mushtaq Guroo, Salman Sagar, Waheed Ur Rehman Para, Mian Mehar Ali, Vijay Kumar, and Thakur Randhir Singh.
In his opening address, the Chairman outlined the responsibilities of the committee and its members, calling for coordinated efforts and a collective sense of purpose. He underscored the Committee’s role in addressing petitions effectively and reporting to the House with recommended remedial actions on specific complaints raised during evidence.
“The Committee will thoroughly examine every petition and ensure the prompt resolution of all genuine concerns,” Pirzada Farooq said, adding that the body would operate strictly within its constitutional mandate and meet regularly to formulate actionable steps.
The Chairman urged all members to uphold the decorum of the institution and discharge their duties with integrity and diligence. He also stressed the importance of seamless cooperation between committee members and relevant officers for the committee’s effective functioning.
Members of the committee actively participated in the discussions, offering suggestions on the way forward and highlighting various issues of public interest that require focused attention.
Earlier, Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandita, briefed the members on the functional aspects of the Committee, laying the groundwork for its operational roadmap.
