SRINAGAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has distanced itself from defamatory and derogatory slogans allegedly raised by some individuals during a rally at Anantnag Housing Colony, saying such remarks do not reflect the party’s ideology or the official position of its leadership.
In a statement issued on the directions of BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, JK BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur said the party does not endorse defamatory remarks against any individual and remains committed to maintaining political decorum and issue-based politics.
Thakur said the BJP respects the dignity and honour of women and is committed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of women’s empowerment.
He said the slogans raised during the rally should not be attributed to the BJP as an organisation, asserting that individuals may have acted on their personal views or emotions.
“The BJP does not endorse any defamatory or derogatory remarks against anyone,” Thakur said.
He said the party’s public conduct and policies were guided by respect, democratic principles and constitutional values.
Thakur also highlighted the BJP’s support for greater participation of women in public life, citing the provision of 33 per cent reservation for women as an indication of the party’s stated commitment to their social, political and economic empowerment.
The BJP spokesperson reiterated that the party would continue to support measures aimed at strengthening women’s participation in social, political and economic spheres.
