SRINAGAR: The BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit will send its MLAs on a district-wide public outreach programme from September 7 to 20 to gather public grievances and raise them during the forthcoming Assembly proceedings, the party said.
The programme was finalised at a meeting of BJP legislators held at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. The outreach will be led by Leader of Opposition in the JK Assembly Sunil Sharma, who will begin the tour from Poonch on September 7.
According to a statement issued by the party, BJP MLAs will visit all administrative districts of Jammu and Kashmir, meeting residents in villages and towns to hear their concerns and identify issues requiring attention in the Assembly.
The BJP said the exercise would also focus on highlighting what it described as the alleged failures of the National Conference-led Government and ensuring greater accountability of the administration.
BJP JK President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma, Lok Sabha MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, Deputy Leader of Opposition Surjit Singh Slathia and General Secretaries Sanjita Dogra and Gopal Mahajan attended the meeting.
Sat Sharma said the initiative was aimed at maintaining direct contact with the public and representing their concerns in the Assembly. He alleged that the NC-led Government had failed to deliver on its election promises and meet public expectations.
Sunil Sharma said the BJP would use its position as the Opposition to hold the Government accountable, adding that party leaders would directly visit villages and towns rather than depend solely on official reports.
