SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has directed a two-minute silence on January 30, 2026, at 11:00 am, in memory of those who sacrificed their lives during India’s freedom struggle. The observance, scheduled in the presence of the Chief Secretary, will involve Administrative Secretaries, officers, and officials at the Civil Secretariat, Jammu (Floors 1–3) and Srinagar (Floors 4–5).
The directive, issued by Additional Secretary Rohit Sharma, JKAS, follows instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs, which mandates that all work and movement stop during the silence. Sirens, Army gun signals, or other suitable means may mark its beginning and end.
The MHA has urged states and UTs to ensure solemn observance, including in educational institutions and public sector units, and recommended talks and programmes on the freedom struggle and national integration, including hybrid events, to promote public awareness and remembrance.
