The report, in Appendix 1.3 of the section referring to paragraph 1.5, records achievements communicated by the department responsible for implementing the mission in the Union Territory.

Of the targeted 19.20 lakh Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs), 15.60 lakh, or 81 per cent, had been provided. The department stated that the remaining 3.60 lakh households would be covered upon completion of the mission.

The report also records an improvement in the functionality of rural water supply schemes in Jammu and Kashmir. The Union Territory’s overall functionality assessment score rose from 53 per cent in 2022 to 84 per cent in 2024, placing it fifth nationally in an assessment conducted by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Jammu and Kashmir also ranked first nationally in Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance in 2023-24 and 2024-25, according to the achievements listed by the department.

To strengthen water quality monitoring, 98 water testing laboratories were established across the Union Territory, of which 22 received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).

The department further reported distributing more than 8,000 Field Testing Kits (FTKs) and training 37,850 women to use the kits to test drinking water quality.

Srinagar and Ganderbal were the two districts reported to have achieved 100 per cent coverage of Functional Household Tap Connections.

The figures highlight the progress reported under the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide household tap water connections and improve access to safe drinking water in rural areas. The listed achievements are based on information supplied by the department for inclusion in the audit report.
