SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir received Rs 3,974.88 crore in central releases under the National Health Mission (NHM) and Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) during the five financial years from 2021-22 to 2025-26, the Centre informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Of the total, Rs 3,973.74 crore was released under NHM, while Rs 171.25 crore was provided under PM-ABHIM, according to a written reply by Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav.
The NHM releases rose from Rs 459.10 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 651.52 crore in 2022-23, Rs 805.22 crore in 2023-24 and Rs 1,040.76 crore in 2024-25, before standing at Rs 1,017.14 crore in 2025-26. PM-ABHIM releases during the same period were Rs 16.11 crore, Rs 1 crore, Rs 44.01 crore, Rs 60.44 crore and Rs 49.69 crore, respectively.
The government said 25 lakh families in Jammu and Kashmir are covered under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in convergence with AB-PMJAY SEHAT. Of these, 6.70 lakh families are covered under AB-PMJAY, while the remaining eligible families are covered exclusively under AB-PMJAY SEHAT.
District-wise data showed that Jammu recorded the highest number of authorised hospital admissions under PM-JAY during 2021-22 to 2025-26 at 2,10,408, followed by Srinagar with 1,97,433 and Baramulla with 1,67,555. Kishtwar recorded 27,623 authorised admissions, the lowest among the districts listed.
The government also said eSanjeevani was operational across Jammu and Kashmir. Till July 2026, the Union Territory recorded 18,85,362 teleconsultations through the platform, with 3,174 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs operational, including AAM-Ayush facilities.
Among the districts, Budgam recorded the highest number of eSanjeevani teleconsultations at 1,92,567, followed by Rajouri with 1,80,423 and Anantnag with 1,37,565. Kishtwar recorded 13,410 teleconsultations.
On tuberculosis, the Centre said 6,554 cases had been notified in Jammu and Kashmir between January and June 2026, according to data on the Ni-kshay portal as of August 6. Jammu accounted for the highest number at 2,478 cases, followed by Srinagar with 687, Udhampur with 656 and Doda with 596.
The Centre said NHM provides support for improving healthcare infrastructure and availability of human resources, while PM-ABHIM supports infrastructure such as Sub-Health Centres, Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Block Public Health Units, Integrated District Public Health Laboratories and Critical Care Hospital Blocks.
It added that public health and hospitals are state subjects and implementation of the health programmes falls under the jurisdiction of the respective State or UT governments.
