SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted Block-Level Monitoring Committees across the Union Territory to strengthen the implementation of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, with a focus on universal screening, early diagnosis, treatment and community participation in tuberculosis control.
The committees have been constituted under Government Order No. 1181-JK(GAD) of 2026, dated July 7, 2026, issued by the General Administration Department.
According to the order, each committee will be headed by a Class-I officer designated as the Block Nodal Officer for the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, to be nominated by the concerned Deputy Commissioner. The Block Medical Officer will serve as Member Secretary, while the Block Development Officer or Child Development and Protection Officer, representatives of NCC cadets nominated by the Deputy Commissioner, MY Bharat cadets or volunteers, and field health functionaries, including the Senior Treatment Supervisor under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), will serve as members.
The committees have been tasked with ensuring 100 per cent screening of the population through X-ray facilities in 1,518 identified high-risk villages, wards and congregate settings by organising TB Shivirs and outreach activities. They will also ensure that all tuberculosis patients use the TB Mukt Bharat App and Khushi Chatbot, and that all presumptive TB cases undergo upfront Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) testing.
The order further directs the committees to ensure differentiated care for all TB patients, achieve full Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT) coverage for eligible individuals after ruling out active TB, undertake micro-planning and identify gaps at the village and ward levels, and promote community participation through NCC and MY Bharat volunteers.
In addition, the committees will organise awareness campaigns, facilitate logistics during screening camps, coordinate with other government departments wherever required, conduct regular field visits, submit progress reports to the State Tuberculosis Officers through the District TB Officers, and flag operational challenges for timely resolution at the block and district levels.
