SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) conducted a joint cordon-and-search operation in areas near the International Border under Arnia police station limits on Sunday as part of heightened security and area domination measures ahead of Independence Day, police said.
The operation was carried out in Aik Nallah, Kool Kalan and adjoining areas, with security personnel searching around 15 houses and Kullas (shacks), a police spokesman said.
The joint operation began at around 6 pm and continued for approximately two hours. The spokesman said the exercise formed part of routine security and surveillance measures, and the situation in the area remained normal throughout.
The operation comes amid increased security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the August 15 Independence Day celebrations.
Security agencies have intensified surveillance and area domination, with Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army and paramilitary forces deployed at key locations and along sensitive routes.
Additional security measures have also been put in place around the main Independence Day venues, including Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar and M A Stadium in Jammu, with reinforced access controls and security cordons.
Security checks have also been intensified along major highways and other transit routes, with vehicle inspections and identity checks being conducted as part of the heightened security arrangements.
Authorities are maintaining close surveillance in border and other sensitive areas to ensure security ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
