SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have cautioned people against fake trading applications and fraudulent online investment advertisements used by cybercriminals to dupe investors with promises of unusually high returns.
The police advisory warns that fraudsters create applications and websites resembling legitimate investment platforms to deceive people into transferring money and sharing sensitive personal and banking information.
Such platforms lure potential victims through claims of guaranteed profits, quick earnings and limited-period investment offers. Examples highlighted in the advisory include promises of returns of up to 30 per cent daily and doubling investments within seven days.
The advisory cautions that these promises are designed to attract investors with unrealistic profit expectations. After receiving money, fraudsters may disappear or block victims, leaving them unable to recover their funds.
People have been advised to verify the authenticity of investment applications, companies and websites before investing. They have also been urged to remain cautious of offers promising exceptionally high returns with little risk and tactics that pressure them into making immediate financial decisions.
The police advisory further advises people never to share personal information, banking details or one-time passwords (OTPs) with unverified individuals or platforms. Investors should use verified and regulated investment services and consult trusted people or financial experts before committing their money.
Anyone who falls victim to cyber financial fraud can call the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or lodge a complaint through the official portal, cybercrime.gov.in.
The advisory urges people to think carefully, verify investment opportunities and exercise caution while making financial transactions online.
