SRINAGAR: A thief was apprehended and publicly paraded with a garland of footwear after being caught outside a hospital in Jammu’s Bakshi Nagar area on Tuesday, police said.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) Azad Manhas, the accused—a known criminal linked to a recently busted gang—was under the influence of drugs when he was arrested.
The incident unfolded when a man, who had recently been robbed of Rs 40,000 while purchasing medicines, spotted the thief and confronted him. A scuffle ensued during which the accused allegedly attacked the victim with a knife, injuring his hand.
Police patrol in the vicinity noticed the commotion and joined the chase, eventually catching the thief after a lengthy pursuit.
The accused, a resident of Kashmir, was then paraded by local youth who had assisted in the chase. He was made to wear a garland of shoes and briefly sat on the bonnet of a police vehicle while a public announcement system declared his arrest en route to the police station.
