SRINAGAR: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday welcomed the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, calling it a positive move and expressing hope that it would prevent further loss of innocent lives.
“If a ceasefire has been reached, I thank the Almighty. Innocent people were being killed. I pray it holds,” Abdullah told reporters in Dooru, Anantnag.
He said the decision was driven by humanitarian concerns and global pressure. “No one has surrendered. Both sides acted out of concern for humanity. Prolonged conflict would have impacted global economies,” he said.
On the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which begins July 3, Abdullah hoped for a safe and smooth pilgrimage. “We pray the yatris return safely after the ‘darshan’ and share their positive experiences about the people and the natural beauty of Kashmir,” he said.
