Jammu Kashmir: Three Arrested for Aerial Firing During Wedding

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said that three individuals have been arrested for carrying out aerial firing during a wedding function in the Gharota area of Jammu district.

A police spokesperson in a statement said, “Police Station Gharota received information regarding an incident of aerial firing that took place during the intervening night of April 20–21. The firing occurred at a wedding celebration in the Gharota area, creating panic among those present and posing a threat to public safety.”

Acting promptly, Gharota Police took cognisance of the matter and registered a case under relevant sections of law. A video of the incident that surfaced on social media platforms further confirmed the reckless nature of the act.

“Under the supervision of Station House Officer Gharota, Inspector Sunil Sharma, a police team launched an investigation using both technical surveillance and human intelligence. The investigation led to the arrest of three persons involved in the incident. The accused were identified as Mohan Singh, son of Bua Ditta and resident of Marjali; Santokh Singh, son of the late Sandoor Singh and resident of Rati Chappri Barn; and Bahadur Singh, son of Chain Singh and resident of Bomal, Tehsil Akhnoor,” police said.

The trio allegedly fired multiple rounds from a pistol and a revolver during the wedding celebrations held at a palace in the Gharota area. Both firearms were recovered and seized from their possession. (GNS)
