SRINAGAR: Management Development Programmes (MDPs) were launched by the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) across 15 districts from April 15, 2025, engaging more than 300 participants so far. The initiative is part of broader efforts under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Union Territory.
The announcement came during a district-level RAMP Awareness Workshop held at Udyog Bhawan, Jammu, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO) in collaboration with Grant Thornton Bharat LLP (SPIU for RAMP) and the District Industries Centre (DIC), Jammu.
The workshop is the third in a series of district-level outreach efforts under the RAMP scheme—a flagship programme by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. The scheme is implemented under the supervision of the J&K Industries and Commerce Department, with JKTPO as the nodal agency.
Sudarshan Kumar, Managing Director of JKTPO, said that under the leadership of Commissioner Secretary Sh. Vikramjit Singh, RAMP could transform the MSME landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. “RAMP has the potential to be a game changer for our entrepreneurs, driving growth and innovation across the region,” he noted.
The SPIU team delivered a detailed presentation outlining key interventions under the RAMP initiative, including formalisation of MSMEs through Udyam Registration, packaging and branding support for GI-tagged and ODOP products, and promotion of digital financing options. Other components include the formation of producer groups, entrepreneurship and skill development (ESDP) initiatives, buyer-seller meets, and the launch of J&K’s MSME Health Clinic and M&E Dashboard.
Recent developments include a formalisation drive by the Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Kashmir, which has begun awareness campaigns in Pulwama, Anantnag, Kupwara, Kulgam, Budgam, Ganderbal, and Baramulla to bring unregistered enterprises into the formal economy.
The workshop, chaired by Joint Director (Development), Industries and Commerce Jammu, Ashok Kumar, saw participation from MSME entrepreneurs, industry associations, and government representatives from departments including Handloom & Handicrafts, NABARD, Labour & Employment, Cooperative Societies, and Government Polytechnic Jammu.
Officials and consultants addressed participant queries and reiterated the UT Government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots implementation of the RAMP programme.
