The players in the forest department are serving for the past16 years.“Since then our services have not been regularized and our future looks bleak. During our stay with the team, we have brought many laurels for the department as well as to the State but in return, we got nothing except hollow promises,” said a protesting player.

It was in the year 2003-04 that the forest department did new recruitment into the forest football team and selected best available footballers in State at that time. A total of 14 footballers were recruited in which five of them left later for some unknown reasons.

“Every government promised us regularization of services but on grounds they do nothing,” said Khalid Umar who is the captain of the forest football team.“We don’t even have the option of resigning now because all of us are almost above 30 years of age,” he added.

It was advised by PCCF (Principal chief conservator of forests) Kashmir that the services of the football team be regularized which includes relaxation in their salary.

“It is very shameful that a sportsperson has to come on roads to protest for his rights. We only demand what we deserve,” he said.
