Helping J&K government improve its financial health at the fag end of the year, the central government has released Rs 1200 crore under the Special Plan Assistance, official sources said.

The release of the amount was withheld after some controversy erupted between New Delhi and Srinagar over the system of expenditure involved.

Sources in the state government said Rs 700 crore under the same plan is in the transit and state government is due to receive the same in coming days.

Sources in the state finance department said that Rs 164 crore under the Special Plan Assistance are still with the central government and the negotiations are on to get the same released.
