SRINAGAR: A student hailing from the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, pursuing a bachelor’s Pharmacy at Mewar University in Rajasthan, was arrested by the Rajasthan police for making comments related to the demolished Babri Masjid and Ram temple at Ayodhya. He has been identified as Sohrab Qayoom.

The arrest according to the student association statement took place on January 26.

The Rajasthan police registered an FIR under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including U/S 151, 153A, 295A, and 505.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association condemned the actions of the student, Sohrab Qayoom, for using objectionable remarks. It has requested Home Minister Amit Shah and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bajanlal Sharma to drop the charges against him. Association leader Nasir Khuehami expressed concern over the potential consequences this incident may have on Sohrab Qayoom’s future.

“The charges and FIR against him could ruin his future, and the Association believes that providing an opportunity for rehabilitation is essential for the youth’s growth and development,” he said.
