Naeem-AkhterMinister for Education, Naeem Akhtar, Sunday said the people of Jammu and Kashmir will reap the dividends of the renewed thaw in Indo-Pak ties as they are the worst sufferers of the hostility in the region.

“If everything goes well on Indo-Pak front, we will soon come out of the dark era of bombs and guns. The political dialogue between India and Pakistan and the restrain on borders will have a positive impact on Jammu and Kashmir which will give a new direction to the peace and reconciliation process,” Akhtar said.

The Minister was speaking at MP School, Bagh-e-Dillawar Khan here during the launch of ‘Hunar Se Rozgaar’ program, a skill development initiative launched by the Department of Education in collaboration with the Institute of Hotel Management, Srinagar, an official spokesperson said ths late evening.

During the program, hundreds of students will be trained in catering services.

Akhtar said the aim of the program is to bring value addition to the routine academic activities of the students, “this heritage school has sent so many luminaries into the field of politics, arts, education and all other walks of life. The new program will be a value addition to the already existing curriculum,” he said.

Vowing to upgrade its infrastructure at the institute, Akhtar said the MP School will be turned into an alternative to private schools for residents of old Srinagar city.  “We will make this school a knowledge hub, an institution of excellence and the beating heart of the city,” Akhtar said while ordering the Director of School Education Kashmir, Shah Faesal, to start nursery classes at the school.

Describing education as “pivotal” to modern societies, he said the teacher fraternity should focus on teaching for welfare of 16 lakh students in J&K.  “I am proud of this fraternity who expressed their enthusiasm and readiness to join the CM’s Super 50 program which has been a huge success,” he said.

Urging students to aim at higher goals, the Minister said besides competitive fields like IAS, IIT and IIM, exciting events are happening in the world of science and technology to which the state of J&K must contribute.

“We have the best cuisine in food and bakery. Kashmir is known for its hospitality. We must exploit our golden hands so that we pull out Kashmir from the economic morass and make a global impact,” he said, while ordering the Director, School Education, to start coaching classes for entrance exams in the Institute of Hotel Management.

Yasir Reshi, Member of Legislative Council, Waheed-ur-Rehman, Political Analyst in Chief Minister’s Office, CEO Srinagar, Arif Malik and Principal of MP School also attended the function.
