SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Engineering Graduates Association (JKCEGA) on Thursday welcomed the placement of senior engineering officers in the Public Works (R and B) and Jal Shakti Departments, terming the move a significant administrative step towards strengthening leadership and improving service delivery in the Union Territory.

In a press note, the Association expressed gratitude to the CM, Omar Abdullah, and his government for what it described as a timely and far-reaching initiative. The JKCEGA also acknowledged the role of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Public Works (R and B) Surinder Choudhary, Minister for Jal Shakti and Forest, Ecology and Environment Javid Ahmad Rana, Additional Chief Secretary Jal Shakti Department Shaleen Kabra, and Additional Chief Secretary Public Works (R and B) Department Anil Kumar Singh in issuing long-pending promotion and placement orders against available vacancies.
According to the Association, the recent orders cover key leadership positions, including one Engineer-in-Chief, eight Chief Engineers (R and B), ten Superintending Engineers and eleven Executive Engineers in the Jal Shakti Department. It said the placements have been widely welcomed by the engineering fraternity and are expected to improve institutional leadership, enhance decision-making efficiency and strengthen the execution of public works and essential services across the Union Territory.
While expressing satisfaction over the developments, the JKCEGA urged the government to fill vacancies at the levels of Superintending Engineer (R and B), Executive Engineer (R and B), Assistant Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer in both departments, which have arisen following the latest placements and recent retirements. The Association also pressed for the early regularisation of long-pending cases, citing the need for administrative stability, continuity and sustained morale among engineers working on the ground.
The Association reiterated its commitment to constructive engagement with the government and the administration, stating that such cooperation is essential for professional excellence, institutional strengthening and overall development of Jammu and Kashmir.
