J&K Private Schools United Front (JKPSUF) has termed the class 12 results as the worst ever, as the pass percentage has taken a steep dive in comparison with previous years.

The front said that after recent years of comparative good results, this year has been a disaster. “For both batches of 2011 and 2012, the results had a good pass percentage of 59 percent, and even turmoil ridden 2010 batch had a respectable 56 percent pass percentage,” said G N Var, General Secretary JKPSUF. “But this yes it is a major disappointment as the pass percentage stands at a low of 52 percent.”

The front said that the state needs to take immediate steps to overhaul its education system. “Majority of the failures come from government schools, so there is a huge problem with its system,” said Var. “Time and again we are suggesting them to update their education system but to no avail.”

The front also termed the “Twisted” Maths paper as one of the factors of dismal performance. “The Maths and some others papers were compiled in one of the most unprofessional ways leading to the drop in performance of students,” said Var. “Regarding so called grace marks, we demand to know the terms and conditions followed to award such marks as we fear in some cases the marks were not awarded.”

The front expressed its concern about the huge failure rate of students in arts stream. “65 percent of students translating into staggering 19759 students appearing in arts stream have failed in one or more subjects,” said Var. “Most of them are from poor background who wanted to have decent education in government schools and government simply denied them the right of good education.”

The Front asked the government not to close its eye to this hard reality as has been its norm.  “We want some hard action to be taken against the guilty schools and teachers and more accountability be brought in government education sector,” said Var. “We appeal to the government to kindly rise to the occasion and save the future of our next generation.
