Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar Wednesday said that September 7 shall be observed as a ‘Revival Day’ to commemorate the first anniversary of the devastating floods that hit the State September last.

“The day will mark the spirit of revival, community volunteerism, courage, generosity and solidarity in post-floods and send a message of resilience and normalcy about Kashmir to the rest of the World,” he said.

The Minister said this while co-chairing a meeting alongwith the Minister for Public Works, Floriculture, Gardens and Parks, Syed Altaf Bukhari to discuss the modalities for commemorating the ‘Revival Day’, an official statement said.

The Ministers said the day will be observed to venerate the unsung heroes especially the Kashmiri youth who selflessly volunteered in one of the great civilian rescue efforts of our times.  They said a Committee has been constituted under Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to identify all such brave-hearts and honour them suitably.

The Education Minister said that the people have, and still are showing the will and determination to overcome the challenges and build back better, post floods.

In the meeting extensive discussions were held with regard to venue, events and various other arrangements to be made for the day. It was decided that events shall also involve school children especially from the flood affected areas.
