The Union government Tuesday announced an additional Rs 1500 Crore relief package for flood hit J&K.

Reports said that Rs 500 Crore and Rs 1000 crore for restoration of damaged structures package for the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir.

Union Home Ministers, Rajnath Singh And Arun Jaitley announced this in a joint press briefing in New Delhi this afternoon.

Union FinMin Arun Jaitley said that Jammu, Kashmir and Leh-Ladakh have special focus of the government.

“Jammu and Kashmir has a BJP-PDP government. We have started a Common Minimum Programme and we are committed to the state’s full-fledged development,” Rajnath Singh said in his remarks.

He said that following devastating floods last year, the PM had monitored the situation then and Rs 762 Crore additional amount was given. “PM had announced a relief of Rs 1000 Crore as additional amount for the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

“People of J&K lost everything in the floods,” he said adding, “today we have decided to allocate more funds for Jammu and Kashmir.” “We’re providing an additional ex-gratia relief of Rs 500 Crore and Rs 1000 Crore for restoration of damaged structures.”

“All three regions of J&K need balanced growth, a team of bureaucrats including members of Niti Ayog and Expenditure Secretary will study and prepare a long term developmental vision for the state,” Jaitley said in his remarks.

The Union Minsiter said that additional food grain for the state has been approved. “Kachhe houses of poor that are damaged or broken, NDA will rebuild 75,000 such houses,” he said adding, “We are also announcing a special grant to revive tourism in the state and rebuild 12 tourist locations in the state.”

He further said that last year, Rs 2602 Crore and this year Rs 2437 Crore have been released to the state. “A total of Rs 5000 Crore has been released last year and this year for Jammu and Kashmir flood relief.”
