SRINAGAR: In a swift response, police in Budgam solved a theft case within hours, apprehending the culprit and recovering stolen cash. The incident unfolded on the morning of December 29, 2024, when Mohammad Ashraf Naik, an Imam at Jamia Masjid Gopalpora Chadoora, reported the theft of Rs 22,220 from his room while he was leading the Fajr prayers.
Following the complaint, a case was registered under FIR No. 180/2024 at Police Station Chadoora. A police team led by I/C Police Post Mochewa, Muhammad Adil Tak, and supervised by SDPO Charar-i-Sharief, Shri Owais Ahmad Wani, acted swiftly, employing intelligence inputs to narrow down suspects. During questioning, Umar Farooq Shah, a resident of Zoolwah Gopalpora, admitted to the crime. The stolen cash was recovered from his possession, and the accused was arrested.
The prompt action by the police drew appreciation from the local residents and the mosque committee, who lauded their efforts in solving the case efficiently. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and swift justice in maintaining community trust.
