A day after Kashmir policemen in a training institute at Udhampur went on hunger strike after they were allegedly denied vacation by the authorities, the agitating cops on Friday called off their strike after assurance by a senior official.

“Today, a senior police official visited us and assured that in next two days you people would be granted vacation,” a cop told GNS over phone, adding: “he told us to break the fast and later we called off the hunger strike.”

As reported earlier, nearly 200 cops from Kashmir at SKPA Training Institute where they had undergone departmental training in June, this year, were allegedly denied recess by the authorities since August 09. “It is clear regional discrimination,” they had alleged after 500 cops from Jammu Division were granted vacation in the same institute.
