SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, on Friday announced plans to install additional CCTV cameras along the highway stretch in Kashmir to enhance road safety and curb traffic violations.
Bidhuri said that the recent Tangpora road accident has prompted the administration to adopt a more proactive approach to road safety.
Speaking in Srinagar during the ongoing Heritage Week celebrations, Divisional Commissioner Bidhuri, emphasised the importance of safeguarding the future by ensuring children’s safety. He referred to children as “our future” and called for collaboration among locals, traffic police, school administrations, and other stakeholders to create safer roads.
The Div Com further explained that the newly installed cameras would serve not only road safety purposes but also enhance security. “The administration will ensure that non-functional cameras are repaired and monitored regularly,” he said.
Addressing concerns regarding the enforcement of traffic laws, Bidhuri assured the public that there would be no unnecessary harassment during the ongoing traffic enforcement drive. “The law applies equally to everyone, and those who have all required documents will not face any problems,” he added.
The Div Com also highlighted the administration’s proactive measures, and said that the increased number of CCTV cameras would act as a deterrent against reckless driving, thereby contributing to smoother and safer traffic flow in the region.
This initiative is part of the administration’s continued efforts to improve traffic management and ensure a safer driving environment for residents. (KNO)
