Two motor-cycle borne gunmen on Wednesday shot dead a Kashmiri driver in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to GNS, a truck driver identified as Altaf Ahmad Shiekh, son of Late Ghulam Mohiuddin Sheikh, resident of Pahli Haran Sheeri in Baramulla district, had left for Bihar along with his brother in his fruit-laden truck bearing registration number JK05C- 8455 on October 17, this year.

Besides the truck of Altaf, two more fruit laden trucks were accompanying him from Kashmir including one from Amargarh Sopore and went jointly to Bihar.

“On 23rd of October, we reached Bagalpora Bihar and after unloading fruit-laden trucks, we left for Kashmir,” Bilal Ahmad Dar, who hails from Amargarh Sopore, told GNS over phone from Beli Par Police Station in Gorakhpure Uttar Pradesh.

Bilal told GNS that yesterday evening at around 6:00 pm they reached Bagha Gardha on National Highway in Gorakhpure district of Uttar Pradesh. “We stopped our trucks and three of us went to nearby Transport office and to get some water. I and Altaf started to clean the trucks and in the meanwhile, two persons on a motor-cycle appeared on the highway fired a bullet which hit Altaf and he instantly fell down,” Bilal, who was with Altaf, told GNS.

Bilal said he gave some water to Altaf and they moved injured driver to Gorakhpur district hospital but after 30 minutes he succumbed.

“We informed police and they also rushed to the spot,” he said.

The brother of slain, Waseem Shiekh, told GNS that they are orphans and have an old mother at home. Waseem couldn’t speak further and broke.

Meanwhile, Station House Office (SHO) Beli Par, Yadvindra Pal told GNS confirmed the incident to the GNS and said they have registered an FIR 410/2014 under 302 IPC. “We have started investigations and have questioned Bilal, who is an eyewitness.

He said the incident happened yesterday at 6:00 pm.

The Superintendent of Police Gorakhpur, Sheshnath Yadav, told GNS that they have established check points and passed on the message about the incident and hopefully accused will be held soon.
