Saying that India has crossed all the limits of tolerance on Jammu and Kashmir, Advisor to Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said, “We will urge UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to send a fact-finding mission to J&K to probe human rights violations and use of pellet guns on protesters.”
“The use of force on civilians, protesting peacefully over extrajudicial killings, is deplorable and violates global human rights and laws,” said Aziz.
A team of Indian eye specialists had visited J&K Kashmir due to unprecedented eye injuries and its leader had said that they had never seen such large-scale injuries. “It is a war-like situation here.”
It may be noted Pakistan has been campaigning against the J&K situation after popular militant commander Burhan Wani’s recent killing.
Aziz said PM Sharif had issued a statement conveying shock on the killing of people in J&K. A protest was lodged by the foreign secretary with the Indian High Commission.
The Security Council and ambassadors of the EU, African Union and OIC Contact Group on J&K were briefed by the foreign secretary.
A “Black Day” was observed across Pakistan and commissions abroad. All Pakistani missions abroad were told to stress upon the human rights violations in J&K, said Aziz.
Rejecting Indian accusations against Pakistan for fomenting trouble in J&K, Aziz said the Kashmiris’ struggle for the right to self-determination cannot be equated with terrorism.
Aziz said the Indian Armed Forces were using live ammunition on the mobs which had caused many civilian casualties. “Around 50 people have been killed and more than 3,500 injured. It was reported that 400 of those injured were in a critical condition of which 70 may have become blind,” he added. Aziz said the figure was rising by the day due to continued protests.
Referring to the curfew barring the people’s access to food and basic emergency services, he said incidents of violence and harassment and teargas shelling had been reported in hospitals also.
