The case came to light on November 20 when Manzoor Ahmad Mir, a resident of Doniwari Lolab, lodged a complaint at the Bazaar police post. According to Mir, his wife was abducted while the couple was at SDH Hospital. The accused was identified as Asif Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Alchizebh Kupwara, who reportedly used a motorcycle bearing the registration number RJ13ST 3028 to carry out the abduction.

Following the registration of an FIR (No. 267/2024) at Kupwara police station, investigations revealed that the accused and the abducted woman had fled the area to avoid detection. Acting on leads, a special police team was formed, which tracked their whereabouts to Rajasthan.
