SRINAGAR: The Central Enforcement Wing of the State Taxes Department in Kashmir has achieved a significant milestone in its efforts to clamp down on tax violations. From April to November in the ongoing financial year 2024-2025, the department imposed penalties amounting to Rs 1.41 crore, marking a 27 per cent increase compared to the same period in the previous financial year 2023-2024.
The penalties were primarily levied on traders who were found violating the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act and Rules, particularly in cases involving the transportation of goods in contravention of these regulations.
The department noted a marked increase in penalty collections starting from September 2024. During that month, penalties saw a 50 per cent rise, while October and November followed with a 113 per cent increase and a 24 per cent increase, respectively, compared to the previous year.
This surge in penalties reflects the department’s heightened focus on curbing GST violations, sending a strong message to tax evaders. The enforcement wing has vowed to continue its crackdown on traders and businesses that fail to comply with tax laws, with a clear aim to ensure transparency and accountability in the region’s tax system.
