At least twenty protesters were injured in clashes with the government forces near the site of a gunfight in Kiloora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.

The protests erupted after scores of youth started pelting stones on forces near the gunfight site triggering clashes.

During the clashes, at least twenty youth sustained injuries who were later shifted to the nearby District hospital.

Five among the injured have been shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment, sources said.

The gunfight broke out on Friday late evening after a joint team of army and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation at Kilora area following specific information about the presence of some militants in the area, a police officer had said.

Five militants have been killed in the ongoing operation so far, the army said. An official said the identity of the slain militants is being ascertained.
