King’s Life!

What happens behind the closed doors and inside the high corridors of power remains hidden from the public eye. But once in a while, these highflying men with power and money, in their arrogance, let their guards down to shock the commoners out of their wits. This is exactly what happened when twenty-three-year old Tony Farhan Beig uploaded his father, DIG Jammu Shakeel Ahmad Beig’s picture on his instagram account in which a policeman is helping him put on his shoes. The picture went viral within minutes and enraged netizens (internet users) for Tony’s bragging of his father’s lavish lifestyle at the expense of his subordinates.

The caption below the picture read: “Real king – My Dad!! Last time he put his shoes himself was almost 15 years ago #Boss Life #King xx.”

In another picture, Tony has posted on his facebook and instagram account, he was seen playing golf while an armed policeman is holding the flag stick acting as caddy. The caption below this picture read: “Golf with Dad before next (flight).”

He is indeed enjoying King’s Life as boasted by his son. It was not for the first time that a high ranking official is seen abusing his powers (bestowed to him for public service) for his personal pleasure. There were instances where these ‘public servants’ use every possible means to elevate their status in a society engulfed by poverty, hardships, calamities and conflict. They are the new bourgeois of our society who get consumed by the power they get to safeguard the interests of the people they are supposed to serve. It is unfortunate that these public servants, with their ‘attained’ status, power and money, are the new elites of our society. They unfortunately set the standards of morality and what is right and wrong for rest of the populace.

What if Tony would not have been a son of a serving high ranking officer? Would he still be able to boast about his father’s King size lifestyle so brazenly and not feel apologetic about it when criticised by the people? Probably not. But he is no common man and he knows that quite well. After all, being a DIG’s son he knows ‘law and order’ better than most of us. He knows that despite his disclosure of what is otherwise a common practice among people with power, nobody will dare to touch him or his King dad. There is no law to stop a serving officer from enjoying his life!

Law is for ordinary people who pay taxes, who do no harm to others, who do not take their fellow citizens for granted, who do not need people to wear their shoes and above all who do not question. For people like Tony, it is just another word that can be twisted and turned as and when needed. After all Kings make laws, not follow them!
