UN Secretary General appoints Judge Stephen M Schwebel as umpire and Chairman of the Court of arbitration

Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales appointed Sir Franklin Berman KCMG QC as umpire.

Rector of Imperial College, London appoints Professor Howard S. Wheater Ferng as umpire.

In the first meeting, the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) appoints Aloysius P Llamzon as Registrar and Brooks W Daly as Treasurer.

Parties meet the PCA at the Peace Palace, the Hague.

PCA issues Procedural Order No 1 memorializing many of the matters agreed to by the Parties during the First Meeting.

PCA issues Procedural Order No 2 adopting “Supplemental Rules of Procedure”

PCA issues Procedural Order No 3 deciding the itinerary of the court’s proposed visit to the site on either side of the LoC suggesting the size of the delegations, matters concerning the confidentiality of the site visit and costs apportioned between the parties.

Pakistan seeks an interim order restraining India from proceeding further with the planned diversion of the river.

June 12, 2011
PCA issues Procedural Order No 4 on deciding on a schedule for written submissions and hearing on Islamabad’s plea.

June 15-21, 2011
PCA visits the Neelum-Jhelum on June 15, crosses LoC on June 17 and returns home on June 20-21 from Delhi.

August 2, 2011
PCA transmitted India and Pakistan and the members of the Court a set of four DVD-format discs containing videos of the various presentations made during the site visit besides numerous photographs.

August 25-27, 2011
PCA holds interim measures hearing at the Great Hall of Justice, the Peace Palace, The Hague.

September 23, 2011
PCA issues Order on Interim Measures.
