Kishtwar town in Chenab Valley Tuesday observed a shutdown to protest the civilian killing in Kashmir Valley.

Two civilians and a militant were killed in Kakpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday during post encounter protests when forces opened fire on them killing Danish Farooq of Ratnipora and Shaista Hamid of Lelhar on spot.

The call for shutdown in Kishtwar was given by grand Imam Jamia Masjid Maulana Farooq Ahmed Kitchloo. All the shops and business establishments in Muslim majority area remained shut while transport did not ply on the roads.

Extra security measures were taken to maintain law and order in Kishtwar. A police official said that the day passed off peacefully.

“This shutdown call was forwarded to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir especially the families of the victims. We denounce and condemn the innocent killings and demand impartial probe into these killings,” Maulana Farooq Ahmed Kitchloo told CNS.
