SRINAGAR: In response to a series of tragic incidents caused by minors driving vehicles, including the recent deaths of two young boys, the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) has announced a significant measure aimed at promoting road safety.
KTMF president Mohammad Yaseen Khan, speaking on behalf of Kashmir’s business community, declared that commodities would no longer be sold to minors found driving vehicles. “This decision stems from our collective responsibility to address the alarming rise in minor driving, which endangers lives on our roads,” Khan stated.
In a press release, Khan emphasised that restricting access to goods such as petrol, cigarettes, and other items often linked to misuse by minors is a step towards discouraging this dangerous behaviour.
The KTMF extended its full support to the Traffic Department and Civil Administration’s initiatives to tackle the issue. “We commend their efforts and pledge our cooperation to ensure public safety. This is not just an administrative issue but a societal responsibility that requires all stakeholders to work in unison,” Khan remarked.
Khan also urged parents, guardians, and society at large to play an active role in preventing minors from accessing vehicles. “Let us work together to prevent further loss of precious lives and build safer roads for everyone,” he said, reaffirming KTMF’s commitment to promoting responsible practices and advocating measures that safeguard public well-being.
The initiative has been hailed as a proactive step towards addressing a growing concern, with hopes that it will encourage stricter adherence to road safety norms and prevent further tragedies.
