SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday issued the following statement regarding Kulgam gunfight saying that during the intervening night of May 29/30 2020, on a specific input generated by Kulgam Police, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by Kulgam Police, 01 RR and CRPF 18 Bn at Wanpora Khudwani area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
A police spokesman in a statement that during the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the joint search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.
“In the ensuing encounter, 02 militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. The identification and affiliation of the killed militants is being ascertained,” said the spokesman.
He said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other crimes.
“In this connection case FIR No. 30/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Qaimoh and investigation has been initiated,” he said.
“People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said the spokesman.
