A civilian youth was killed during the clashes near the gunfight site in Badigam village of Shopian district on Sunday.

A civilian identified as Adil Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Mahigund Ashmuji village of district Kulgam sustained a bullet injury during the clashes with government forces in Badigam village of Shopian and later succumbed to injuries at Shopian.

Sources said that the body of slain Adil is on way to Ashmuji Kulgam for the last rites.

Earlier, two civilians identified as Asif Ahmed Mir of Rohomoo Pulwama and Sajad Ahmed Rather, son of Manzoor Ahmed Rather, a resident of Dooru Islamabad were killed during the clashes with government forces.

Five militants including top Hizb commander Sadam Padder and Kashmir University assistant professor Dr Mohammad Rafi were also killed in the encounter that broke out early Sunday Badigam village after the joint team of Army, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

Sources said that over a dozen protesters have been injured during clashes near the encounter site.
