KL Report

SRINAGAR

Terming the Kunan mass rape incident as a black spot on Kashmir’s recent history, the Hurriyat Conference (m) spokesman said that those who claim to be democratic and vanguards of justice, have failed to punish even a single accused behind such a heinous crime.

Despite passage of 20 years, the spokesman said the accused are roaming free and have not been brought to justice. He said, it seems, the accused have been given impunity deliberately, since none among them have even produced before the court even for a single hearing.

On the intervening night of Feb 21 and Feb 22, the spokesman said the soldiers committed mass rape in Kunan. He said that some of the victims have died, but none among the accused was arrested or tried in the court. He said justice eludes the victims which would continue to haunt the so called claims of justice in Kashmir.

The spokesman said the last year Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had announced to observe Feb 23 as “Women Protection Day in Kashmir” to bring to the notice of the world the atrocities and violence against the women in Kashmiri. In this regard APHC was going to hold a seminar on Feb 23 2015 but due to the prevalence of Swine Flu in the valley, the proposed seminar had been cancelled.

Now the Hurriyat is issuing a detailed report about the condition of women in the conflict torn Kashmir valley.
